Thank you, PW. MS, I understand you could be personally affected if a third airport was built. What^s your view?
I think it^s high time we stopped destroying what^s left of the countryside. One proposal is to build a third airport near the Essex coast, where I farm. If that happened, not only would the around the airport suffer, but also areas between airport and London, where be used, for road links. Many farmers like myself would have to give up their land. We^re already very short of run for agriculture in this county, And at a time when world food shortages are becoming more and more severe, we simply can^t afford to lose any more. I think the whole plan should be abandoned.
And there I^m afraid we must leave you. PW, MJ, and MS, thank you all very much for talking us all tonight.
Professor Wi, what do you. Have to say that?
On the question of noise and health, certain very loud noises actually damage the brain, but there is no evedence linking to brain damage. There has, however, been some research suggesting that aircraft noise associated with an increase in certain symto illness, such as irritably, depression. The effect definitely exist, but its fairly weak and typically only cause problems small percentage of the population. So it cant be said to be a majjor problem. Incidentally, most traffic experts believe that a third airport.there some reduction air traffic: the new airport would simply increase the total volume the of London.
